trailer pee

Antioch, CA

So...I'm thinking this can't be a good sign.

  1. Not a big problem.

Probably a leaking differential gasket. Just drain the oil, pop off the differential cover, clean off the gasket seal surface on the cover and the housing, coat both surfaces with silicone sealer, pop on the new gasket and cover, then tighten the bolts to the proper torque. Oh, and replace the oil.

Gaskets get old and leaky after a while.

If you don't do this, then the half-shafts inside the differential will eventually freeze up (at the wrong time), leading to some very "interesting" results. As they say in Serenity ... "Define interesting." response ... "Oh god, we are all going to die." Well maybe not that bad, but it could definitely ruin your whole day.

This is one of the disadvantages of using a differential for the trailer axle instead of a solid axle.
