BORP versus BORP

Berkeley, CA

Amy and I volunteered today at BORP. Amy score kept and I was a referee. BORP currently has two division two teams that go head to head. I'm never sure who to cheer for on those games.

Of significance, today marks the second time in 2 1/2 years of refereeing that I got ran over.

Back on the court

Berkeley, CA

After a year long absence - I returned to being an Assistant Referee today. See me in my cute out fit.
I did a lot of running today which brought to my attention a need to get back to exercising and eating right. Since I had the flu in October, I let my healthy eating subside and I felt it today. Man did I feel it today!

Swing batter swing

San Jose, CA

My dad and I went to a San Jose Giants game tonight. There were three broken bats and a whole bunch of sucky pitching going on. Giants won 5 to 0 against the Stockton Ports.

The Gayest Sausage

Antioch, CA

Every summer while I was in college at BYUI, I had a two week break between semesters. During those two weeks I'd drive out to Wisconsin to see my brother, Sister-in-law and the niece. While there my SIL would take me shopping for new clothes ("Sean you're in college now. You need to start dressing like you're in college"). One time we were at Target buying me my first ever POLO style shirt. One of the shirts my SIL had me try on was a red and blue striped polo. I told her I looked gay in it. (I mean that in the nicest way possible.) She told me I was being silly (and rude toward gay people), but eventually relented and didn't make me get it. Several hours later we were at a Brewers game. During one of the innings a bunch of sausages come out and race around the field. As the #2 Sausage came out I turned to Liz and said "See isn't that the Gayest Sausage you've ever seen." She choked on her Mike's Hard lemonade as she laughed.

On Wednesday, I received my birthday gift from my Wisconsin family. In it was the #2 Racing Sausages Mascot sporting his gay red and blue striped shirt. I'm not sure but I think this is in retribution for getting my brother a BYUI Cow Tipping Team T-Shirt.

Almost

Fremont, CA

I graduated over a decade ago, but I still cheer for my old high school. We sucked when I went there, but I had heard that tonight was the night that we were going to make-up for that: We were going to beat Logan (This is the goal of every Fremont football team). Tonight my old high school came as close as they had ever been. With one minute left in the game my high school had 10 and Logan had 7 (BTW - when I was in high school, Logan usually had 40 and we had zero. They were playing their 4th string people and our first string still looked bad.). Then, with 12 seconds left, Logan scored a touch down and we lost 14 to 10. So close...

Oakland A's 2
Minnesota Twins 12
$7 for two tickets. It was a sad game but at least we didn't pay too much.

Ball Day Twofer

San Francisco, CA

My friend Jenny LOVES (!!) the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tonight they were playing a team in San Francisco and we went to watch. Jenny has some amazing hook-ups and got us to the dugout for free. Prior to the game she met with players on the AZ team (All of which knew her by first name). After the game (in which AZ beat the other sucky team 5 to 3), we returned to the locker room and got signatures. I loved both of these pictures. I love the second one just a little more as the player signing the ball was taller than me and it was such a treat to see this little kid go up to him and ask for his signature and just watch in awe as the player signed the ball.

I went on a hand crank cycle ride today with BORP. On the ride, I saw this kite that was the biggest kite I had ever seen.

San Jose, CA

My dad took me to go see the San Jose Giants tonight. (San Jose is not to be confused with that other horrible team based in San Fran.)

Field of (unfullfilled) Dreams

Walnut Creek, CA

I counted 4 leg braces and 7 over-weight player. I'm thinking they never made it to the professional level as they dreamed of in high school.

Western Division 1 Group Photo

Berkeley, CA

I helped referee 8 Power Soccer games today. Teams came from Hollister CA, San Jose CA, Berkeley CA, Newark CA, and Phoenix AZ. (Not pictured is Newark)

Tangent 1:
I spent a great amount of time today thinking up names that don't chant well. The Arizona Heat 3rd Degrees would often chant, "Turn up the heat!". The BORP Earthquakes would chant "Shake it up!" The San Jose Steamrollers would chant "Go Steamrollers!" & "Bam Bam!" However, the Newark Hot Rodders and the BORP Crushers didn't chant anything team oreonated. And it got me thinking, that maybe, just maybe, there are teams out there that should have spent more time trying to figure out what they were going to chant if they picked their particular name.

Tangent 2:
So, at times, Cerebral Palsy really really annoys me. The Heats had this Beautiful girl playing for them. B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. But because people with CP don't develop physically as the same as people without CP, I couldn't tell if she was 17 or 25. And I don't like asking others because if she is 17 then you look like a sicko. But I couldn't ask her, because each person with CP has their own language and I didn't have the time to learn hers. It took me a year to learn my old boss, Steve's, language. Grr.

Sorry for the tangents

San Jose, CA

After I was finished refereeing Power Soccer games in Alviso, my dad took me to the Saber Cats Arena Football Home Opener. It was an amazing game and I'm hoarse from yelling.
