i have the same problem sometimes. Maybe you need to use the night setting on your camera. ALSO- if you were using a flash on things that aren't up-close, that will mess it up too. I always end up reviewing my photos right after taking them to see if the shot was okay. If it isn't i delete it and try again on another setting. usually i can figure out what i was doing wrong.
