Shake Rattle and Roll

Today was a frustrating day, but tonight was fun fun fun. At about 8pm tonight, my monitor started to shake back and forth. Then I noticed the overhead fan do the same. It took me just long enough to figure out what was going on when it was over. You guessed it - I got to experience my first significant earthquake in 4 years. It was a 5.6 based in Alum Rock. No damage on my end, but what a memorable experience.

  3. anything less than a 6.0 is so minor that it can't really be called an "earthquake." More like an earth wiggle. Unfortunately the sensors at BART (the local commuter rail line) got tripped off so the trains stopped dead for 15 minutes, then had to travel at low speed until all the track had been tested (by the trains). I was on my way to SFO on Bart when it happened. I didn't feel the earth wiggle, but was trapped on the train for a while. I did get to SFO in time to catch my plane. The 1989 earthquake was a whole lot more "exciting."
